7C’s Journal Prompts

  • Creativity: Imagine one of the author’s characters could write a thank you to the author. What would the character say to the author?

  • Content: Think about a character you read about. How would you describe them? What traits does this character have? Use evidence, such as actions or dialogue, to support your thoughts.

  • Confidence: Define confidence. How does the character display confidence? What are some ways that we can develop confidence in our own lives? What can we learn from the characters in the book who displayed confidence?

  • Catholic Identity: Identify the antagonist in the story. The antagonist is a character who keeps the main character (the protagonist) from getting what he/she wants. Make a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the character traits of the protagonist and antagonist. Then, write a few sentences identifying the key differences between their personalities. If the story were to go on, how do you think the protagonist could help the antagonist become a more likable character?

  • Critical Thinking: Name at least 3 steps or strategies the characters used to solve the problem in the story. What obstacles did they run into while solving the problem? How were they able to overcome these obstacles? Write about a time you were faced with a problem, and then another obstacle got in your way. How did you get past this obstacle and get yourself back on track toward solving your problem?

  • Collaboration: Think about a common problem that the character(s) were faced with in the story. How did they work together to come up with a solution to the problem? What do you think would have happened if one character didn’t do their part towards solving the problem? Write about a time you collaborated with a person to solve a problem or reach a goal.

  • Communication: How do the characters communicate with each other throughout the story? Think about a time when the characters failed to communicate with each other effectively. What could they have done differently to get their message across? Write about a time when you had trouble communicating with someone. What do you think made it so difficult?
