Consider helping those in need in the Caribbean after Hurricane Melissa
Due to the recent devasting hurricane in the Caribbean, we have been asked to support relief services to those in need in Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti.
The full extent of destruction is clear after the powerful storm swept across Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba, leaving at least 50 people dead. Jamaica suffered the greatest impact when the storm made landfall on Tuesday morning, October 28, as a Category 5 hurricane.
Melissa’s winds destroyed homes and buildings, uprooted trees and left tens of thousands without electricity—affecting 70% of Jamaica’s power grid. Torrential rain and landslides devastated southern and northwestern Jamaica, with St. Elizabeth, Clarendon, Montego Bay and Westmoreland among the hardest-hit areas. Immediate needs are clean water, food, tarps, and lighting, while power and water systems are down. Over time, families will need help rebuilding homes, replanting crops, and restoring livelihoods.
The Church and Catholic Relief Services are committed to walking with families through every phase of recovery — from immediate relief to long-term rebuilding.
Please consider how your family can help with prayer and a contribution so they can provide shelter, clean water, food, and hope to families who have lost everything. Together, we can help them rebuild.
