Ms. Luciano's Compost Project a Huge Success!
Students grades 5-8 participated in our new lunch composting program. This program was a project this year for Ms. Luciano's Master's Degree, which she is getting in Sustainable Management. Students had the opportunity to compost fruits and vegetables, and they were given cardboard, plastic, and aluminum recycling options. Students were taught what goes in each bin, and they excelled at cleaning up after lunch this year!
In total from the first day of school through November 15th, we composted 121 pounds of food waste, which has been added to the composter in the courtyard. We hope to use this compost in the Spring for our school vegetable gardens. Ms. Luciano has a special thank you to the Green Team of 8th graders who helped with this collection. Thanks to Annie Pyroulis, Casey Gallagher, Lilli Griffth, Cate Roach, and Claire Kirkland!
Ms. Luciano is graduating on December 14th and could not have done this without the students and staff! A huge thank you to everyone for your participation! We will continue to compost and clean up lunch in an eco friendly way for the rest of the year!
