Mrs. Metz's Out of Office Day in 2nd Grade!

On Wednesday, I had the chance to spend the day out of my office, joining the second grade teaching team. I had a wonderful and very busy day being a part of the team. I started my day with Ms. Barry’s class, greeting students and helping make sure they were on track with their morning work. After that we headed to Mass, where Ms. Suleiman’s class was in the choir! All of the second graders do an excellent job participating in Mass and singing with their full heart and voice!

After Mass, I went back to Ms. Barry’s room to help teach reading. I got the chance to work with two groups, leading the group with a re-read of their story about Goad the Toad and completing their work with them. I also had the chance to read a book about our skeletal system with another student.

Afterward, I headed over to Ms. Suleiman’s room. There I did a math enrichment activity with one group (they were so great at it!) and then learned how to play the math game Salute! Laney and Lucas were kind enough to be in my group, where we practiced addition and subtraction facts - I was very impressed with their fluency skills. After this, Ms. Suleiman and I taught a Science lesson together, exploring the growth in forest over time.

After getting out for some fresh air for recess duty, I headed to Mrs. Malter’s room where I helped with spelling review for their spelling test and then taught a Language Arts lesson on prefixes and irregular plural words and writing a paragraph. The students did an excellent job changing the irregular words to plurals and writing complete sentences. I did such a great job teaching the LA lesson, I went over to Ms. Suleiman’s room and taught it again to end my day. I had such a great time with 2nd grade, but I was exhausted last night!

Thanks to the 2nd grade team for welcoming me for an awesome day. After Christmas Break, it will be 1st Grade’s turn for an Out of Office Day!
