Mrs. Metz's Out of Office Day in 3rd Grade
On Monday, I had the chance to spend the day out of my office, joining the third grade teaching team. They had me quite busy, I had such a great day! I started the day with Ms. Sears class, greeting them as they arrived, joining in on morning prayer, pledge and announcements as well as being a part of their morning meeting. I got to learn all about their Star Student for the week and find out who got classroom jobs.
After that, I headed to Ms. Smith’s room for spelling and math. For spelling, I got to teach the lesson, practicing spelling with the students, using long vowel teams. After I taught Spelling, I assisted Ms. Smith with a new type of Math lesson in our new math curriculum. The students were using critical thinking and multiplication to solve a problem.
Up next, I headed to Ms. Carlino’s room where I got to lead her reading group through the lesson, reading aloud and answering questions about the story. I also got to teach her class the spelling lesson, as well. I did lunch duty - the students were very happy with their chicken sandwiches, noodle soup and fries!
After lunch, I headed back to Ms. Sears room for science. Students were learning how to use their laptops to scan a QR code so that they could follow along with the lesson slides at their desks. The students are learning about weather, patterns and graphing data so that they can understand what the best environment for certain animals are.
Overall, the group was so welcoming and engaging, and kept me so busy! Thanks third grade for being the first Out of Office day of the year. Next up…Second Grade in November.
