Mindfulness Crafts (Mandala Hands)

Mindfulness is important at all ages! Practicing mindfulness helps kids focus on self-care, school, and social skills. Below is a crafty mindfulness activity you can do with your children during down time, or while taking a refresher break during the school day! This activity practices grounding, which helps kids connect to emotions in the moment and help ease any stress an anxiety.

Mandala Hands

What you’ll need:

  • Paper

  • Pencils

  • Markers, colored pencils

Grounding

  • Have your child put their hand down on the piece of paper. While holding the paper down, they trace one hand on the piece of paper, and then the second next to it.

  • Mention to pay special attention to how the pencil feels against there fingers.

  • Ask them: how did the paper feel under their hands? How was the pressure from holding the paper down? Did the pencil tickle? What emotions are you currently feeling?

Art

  • Have your child draw inside the traced hands to reflect the emotions they are feeling or reflect their emotions around the current situation of e-learning. These can be words, designs, specific colors, shapes.

  • Examples: one hand can show hopeful and happy feelings, other hand can display nervous or uncertain feelings. Colors can represent feelings.

Please share your designs with me if you complete this activity with your child!! I’d love to see all the designs they came up with!
