Many parents ask themselves how they can best help their child in the high school selection process. There are a lot of things to do before submitting an application. Some tips:
Be thoughtful and realistic about your child’s strengths, gifts and talents. There is a right school for everyone.
Ask your child what he or she wants in a high school, and discuss with teachers and counselor.
Be mindful of the stress and pressure this process can have on your child.
Attend open houses; get a feel for the academic program and school culture.
Attend sporting events, concerts and plays at the schools you are considering.
Schedule a shadow day for your child, if offered.
