This afternoon, our houses circulated through a series of 5 rotations to finalize their day of service learning. Luckily, before our rotations and the rain, students were able to have a recess break. Our friend, Sister Jess of the Franciscan Order of the Eucharist here in Chicago, came to speak to the students about her calling to religious vocation. Mrs. McMillan, our director of youth ministry, led the students through an activity reflecting Catholic Social Teaching. Mr. Hughes, our director of catechesis, spoke to the students about service and its role in our faith. Mr. Kiolbassa provided each house with a music ministry workshop. Each Faculty House Leader also led their houses through a portfolio reflection on their day of service.
Our student house leaders held a large part in supporting our faculty house leaders and ensuring that the events of the day went smoothly. Student house leadership is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students to develop leadership and teamwork skills.
The House System at St. Benedict Prep. is a program that makes our middle school programs one of the most unique when looking at Catholic school education. Our students are brought together in houses dedicated to some of the many beloved saints of the Benedictine Order. Houses consist of multi-grade level teams and provided with experiences to challenge students in faith formation, athletics, academics, and team building. It serves our school’s mission to learn fearlessly, lead responsibly, and serve joyfully.
