Market Day: Commerce Lessons in Action

Our fourth graders recently participated in a Market Day project in which they learned about goods and services, supply and demand, overhead, scarcity, profit and other factors in commerce.

The students were asked to create a product at home, make an advertisement, write a persuasive paragraph on why someone should buy their product, and applied for a classroom job in order to earn money.

During Market Day, the students took turns being producers and consumers and bought and sold products with their classmates.

“The students were excited to purchase their classmates items,” said Ms. O’Hara. “Some of them became quite the entrepreneurs!”

This project represents several of the "7 C's" of St. Benedict Prep values: Collaboration, Critical thinking, Content, Creativity, Communication and Confidence.
