Here at St. Benedict's we offer a variety of standard and unique art courses ranging from Visual Arts to Music to Theater and to Dance. 1 Credit is required for high school students to graduate.


Meet Our 2016-2017 Secondary School Fine Arts Department!


Yvonne Grabe-Liddell


Mary Jo Kent earned a B.S. in Art Education from Northern Illinois University.  Mrs. Kent has exhibited her work at art fairs and galleries, as well as accepting commissions for portraits, landscapes, and mural paintings.  She has experience teaching art at Maine West High School, St. Joseph High School, and Deerfield District 109. Her students have received art awards through the 7th Congressional District Art Competition, the Lemont Loves the Arts Show, The Inside Publications Holiday Art Contest and the Gallery 2506 Future Artists Contest. This will be Mrs. Kent’s third year teaching 6-12th grade Art at St. Benedict Prep and she is looking forward to a great year!


Chris Kustusch earned his Bachelor’s degree from North Park University in Physics and Theater, before earning his MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking from Montana State University. He moved back to Chicago, and took a position at the Museum of Science and Industry, where he helped to develop the Science Storms exhibit. Following that, he opened Big Sci Communications, which works to help organizations communicate science. After teaching Physics at DePaul University and North Park University, he transitioned to teaching Science and Drama at St. Ben’s.


Anna Piotrowski recently graduated from DePaul University with her Master of Music in Violin Performance, and received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance degree from the University of Michigan where she also minored in Performing Arts Management. Ms. Piotrowski has established an active freelance career in the greater Chicago area as well as a growing private violin studio. She has always had a passion for teaching and was grateful to have the opportunity to teach part-time at St. Benedict last year, as well as for an independent music academy that implemented programs in Chicago Public Schools. She is excited to be teaching full time this year with Strings classes grades 2-8! In her free time, Ms. Piotrowski enjoys spending time outdoors, going to or performing in concerts, and trying new restaurants.


Jenna Stamper attended the University of Michigan Ann Arbor for her Undergraduate degree in Music Education and Clarinet Performance.  She has recently completed her Masters in Music Education at DePaul University, focusing her final paper on Instrumental Music Pullout lessons and its relation to academic achievement.  Ms. Stamper teaches instrumental music at St. Benedict Prep for grades 1-12 and is looking forward to another great year of making music!


Hannah Stapleton  is blessed to continue her path as a music educator at St. Benedict Preparatory School, and starting her sixth year of teaching. Her degrees include a Bachelor's of Music from Chicago College of Performing Arts, and a Masters in Vocal Performance from North Park University. Along with performing private vocal recitals around Chicago, she also maintains a private voice studio and has also been the choral director at All Saints Orthodox Church in Albany Park for seven years. Hannah actively pursues outside courses at VanderCook college for continued education in elementary music and is currently in the process of becoming certified in the Orff- Schulwerk music method. She looks forward to encouraging and establishing a love and joy for music in the students at St. Benedict.
