*****Reminders...

(5/16) - Field Trip this Wednesday!!

REMEMBER TO DRESS YOUR CHILD IN THE GOLD FIELD TRIP SHIRT TOMORROW!!

PLEASE RETURN THE PERMISSION SLIP FOR THE FIELD TRIP IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY!

 
Writing:  Today we assembled lowercase z and practiced tracing and independently writing. 

Large Group:  We discussed as a group the kind of animals you see when you go to the zoo.  Then we narrowed our focus on a lion.  We read stories about Cats and going to the zoo.  Following the stories each student was given a post it which they posted to our chart of our favorite zoo animals! The favorite which had five votes was the LION!

Catch:  During large group we tossed around a Zz bean bag and children had the opportunity to recall or state a new Zz word in our box. 

 

 

Science/Discovery:  Children manipulated scissors while cutting out real life images of animals from magazines.  Then they determined which habitat the animal lived in and glued it to our habitat collages.  Today we reviewed the rainforest/Jungle and introduced the Arctic . 

 

Math:  Today we identified an oval while also reviewing other shapes we have learned. In small groups children identified each shape and colored by shapes.  Once they colored a shape they counted how many were in the picture and recorded the number on their paper.

Walk the Line:  During transitions each child was asked to locate a specific # on the # line and to state their assigned number. 

 

Small Motor: Students worked in small groups manipulating green play dough, while using animal shaped cookie cutters.

 

Art:  In groups of 2 to 3 students created a lion mask.  They first colored the mane with crayons and then glued down yellow, orange, and brown yarn to make the lions mane. 

Jesus Time: In groups of 3 and 4 students discussed with a teacher about the Bible and Jesus learned from his mother Mary, and his foster father, Joseph.  Then they cut out and colored a prayer to share with their family.

Writing:  Today we ink dotted lowercase z and practiced tracing and independently writing.

Art:  In groups of 2 to 3 students created a rainbow elephant.  They glued small construction paper squares on the back side of a paper plate.  Then each child was given two ears, a face, and two feet to color and glue to complete their Rainbow Elephant.

***BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE! BOOK FAIR:

Please join us as we kick off the summer reading season with a scholastic summer book fair! Please visit the H. S. Library.

   - Today we brought our class to visit the book fair and each child created a wish list for themselves.  Please be sure to stop by!  This is a wonderful way to get your child excited about reading for the summer.  The children were very excited and happy about the wish lists they each created with their special books of interest!

****Please note TONIGHT (5/10) is Portfolio Night

In your child's mailbox is a reminder of your assigned portfolio viewing time.  Please be prompt and respectful of your time.  I have also provided each family with a copy of their child's "gold" goal setting sheet.  I st rongly encourage each family to review your child's past goals and reflect.  Please jot down a new goal for the summer and reflect on the past goal you had written down for your child. 

   While time is allotted during the portfolio conference it has been my experience that time moves quickly and there are a lot of great portfolio pieces to view with your child. 

   Please fill out the sent home copy of the goal and reflection sheet and return no later than Thursday morning drop off!!

Build-A-Word:  Children manipulated letter stamps and green ink to build the word frog.

 

Math:  Today we reviewed number 1 to 5.  Children cut out pages with different number of frogs on each page and matched each frog page to the corresponding numerical number.  When the children were finished gluing the numbers and pages together a teacher helped them assemble their number book and stapled it for each child.

 

Walk the Line:  During transitions each child was asked to locate a specific # on the # line and to state their assigned number. 

 

Small Motor: Push pin frogs

 

Art:  In groups of 2 to 3 students, ink dotted half a paper plate green and then glued on red eyes. Then each child added googly eyes and curled a red strip of construction paper and glued it on the plate to make the frog tongue.  They turned out GREAT!

Story: Ten Little Caterpillars

Science:  As a large group activity we reviewed the life cycle of a Frog. 

  • In small groups children colored and then cut out the four stages of a frog.  They worked with a teacher and verbally expressed which stage comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and the final stage, in sequential order.

Math:  Today we reviewed the #13.  We practiced counting to 13 and practiced tracing and writing the #13. 

Walk the Line:  During transitions each child was asked to locate a specific # on the # line and to state their assigned number. 

Jesus Time: "Our Beautiful Mother Mary" preschool prayer service was held today in church. 

  • During center time 3 to 4 students worked at a time on cutting out the pictures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Small Motor: Push pin frogs

 

Art:  In groups of 2 to 3 students, assembled a strawberry ice cream cone for mommy.  On the backside of their card each student individually drew a picture of their mother with them.

Story:  Five Green and Speckled Frogs

Build-A-Word:  We have been discussing the life cycle of a frog.  Today we built the word tadpole and independently copied down the word. 

Science:  As a large group activity we reviewed the life cycle of a Frog.  Yesterday we discussed that both a frog and a butterfly start off as an egg.  While a caterpillar hatches out of a butterfly's egg a tadpole hatches out of a frog's egg.  We labeled the four parts all together. 

Math:  Today we reviewed the #12.  We practiced counting to 12 and practiced tracing and writing the #12. 

Walk the Line:  During transitions each child was asked to locate a specific # on the # line and to state their assigned number. 

Jesus Time:  Tomorrow will be a preschool prayer service at 10:00 in the church.  Our focus will be Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  We have practiced singing "Mary is the Mother of God" (tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)
