Introduction to Literature

Course Description: This course emphasizes foundational understanding of the elements of reading, writing, and language.  Students apply active reading strategies to texts from various genres to improve comprehension and fluency; write for a variety of purposes and audiences to develop clear organization and reasoning; and practice standard grammar and usage to strengthen communication skills.

Course Outcomes:

  • engage in literary analysis of works from a variety of genres
  • provide evidence as support for the claim of an author
  • implement the writing process to write a narrative piece, a persuasive essay, an original poem, and a research-based essay
  • follow MLA format guidelines
  • participate in meaningful class discussions and learning community activities
  • actively listen and communicate with classmates
