Conditioning for the Dancer and Athlete

Course Description: This course will increase strength, agility, flexibility and endurance for the athlete and/or dancer.  Students will learn fundamental movement techniques that can easily be carried over into their other athletic experiences. Conditioning for the Athlete and Dancer will strengthen the body while improving coordination, balance and alignment. Students enrolled in this class will use a variety of manipulatives in their training:  ballet barre, stability balls and resistance bands, BOSU, hand and ankle weights, just to name a few.

Course Outcomes

  •  understand and independently be able to facilitate a workout program that will  encourage proactive fitness throughout their lifetime
  • demonstrate knowledge, proper technique and safety precautions during activities
  •  strive for balanced muscular development
  •  describe the role of motivation in physical activity
  • understand the components of a healthy lifestyle AND choose to live it

Course Materials:

  1. school issued Physical Education uniform
  2. good, supportive cross training gym shoes (Converse, Vans, Toms, or the like are not acceptable)
  3. two sets of hand weights (we will meet to discuss weight limits)
  4. one set ankle weights
  5. yoga mat
  6. towel
  7. water bottle
  8. deodorant
  9. resistance band - medium to difficult
